DOH-Mimaropa bestows cash rewards to Regional BHW Federations

Department of Health (DOH) – MIMAROPA (Oriental/Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) yesterday awarded cash prices to best performing Barangay Health Workers Federation during the Regional Monitoring and Evaluation for Equity and Effectiveness (ME3) Summit and Recognition Rites for High Performing Local Health Implementer and Local Barangay Health Worker (BHW) Federation based on Local Government (LGU) Scorecard for Health 2015 Performance held at the Century Park Hotel, Manila.

“These recognitions are given to LGUs who have achieved the highest scores in the LGU health critical indicators such as fully immunized children, tuberculosis cure rate and facility-based delivery that were all achieved with the support of the BHWs deployed in their respective communities,” Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated during the opening program.

“The ME3 also recognizes the efforts of the individual BHW federations being the community-based frontline volunteer workers performing as advocates, disseminators, educators and record keepers. Their primary responsibility is to ensure access to quality health services to all”, he added.

The ME3 is directed towards ensuring the achievement of health system’s goals through better health outcomes, fair health financing and responsive health systems by ensuring that all Filipinos, especially the disadvantaged group have equitable access to health care.

Janairo added that ME3 is a tool to guide policy makers, program managers and stakeholders in the assessment of the benefits of health reform efforts in the community as indicated in the LGU’s Scorecard for Health.

In recognition of the BHWs contributions to the community, the first prize for the “Best Performing BHW Federation” with cash incentive of Php250,000 was awarded to Marinduque BHW Federation; second prize with PhP200,000 went to Puerto Princesa City BHW Federation; third prize was with Php150,000 was given to Oriental Mindoro BHW Federation; fourth with Php125,000 to Occidental Mindoro BHW Federation; Fifth with Php100,000 to Romblon BHW Federation and the sixth place with Php75,000 to Palawan BHW Federation.

According to Janairo the performance-based cash incentive given to the various federations will serve as support funds in the implementation of their programs and in the performance of their duties in their respective communities.

Awardees for “Good Governance for Health” includes municipalities of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, Odiongan in Romblon, Quezon and Narra in Palawan.

Municipal awardees for the “Efficient Health Sector Spending” were Puerto Galera of Oriental Mindoro, Magsaysay of Occidental Mindoro, Magdiwang of Romblon, Sofronio Espanola of Palawan and Buenavista of Marinduque.

For the “Scaling- up Health Interventions” awardees comprise of municipalities of Puerto Galera, Occidental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Narra, Palawan; Sta. Cruz, Marinduque and Looc and Magdiwang in Romblon.
