TORRIJOS, Marinduque – The Marinduque State College (MSC) – School of Agriculture with the collaboration of Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development is now stabilizing the farmers’ knowledge for the sustainability of native pig production in the province of Marinduque.
On July 18, 2019, the MSC-School of Agriculture conducted a Stakeholders Forum aimed to heighten the understanding of native pig raisers for a sustainable production and community development. The activity was participated by 116 participants composed of farmers–cooperators, barangay captains, students, faculties, staff and native pig farmers coming from different barangays whom are productively engaged in native pig production. The activity was supported by Marinduque Gov. Presbitero J. Velasco, Jr.
Velasco inspired and encouraged the participants to continuously produce high quality native pigs that will satisfy the savors of lechon consumers. He highlighted to increase the number of production per year to meet the demand of native pig lechon outside the province.
Formerly, the DOST Mimaropa in collaboration with the MSC Torrijos Campus intensify the aspiration of native pig raisers to sustain and uplift the back yard production of native pigs as part of the interventions for the economic activity in Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST). The said activity was held on August 30, 2019 in MSC School of Agriculture which is intended to provide the selected participants-beneficiaries with the basic animal husbandry practices prior to deployment of native pig as part of the technology transfer of the results of Research and Development on the Markaduke Pigs.
The Native Pig Research and Development is now on farmer’s field to test its performance and profitability.
Meanwhile, six cooperators from the municipality of Torrijos are extended with the program, and among subsequent neighboring municipalities. The successful activity is under the supervision of MCS-Torrijos Campus Director and Program Leader Dr. Arnolfo M. Monleon. – Marinduquenews.com
