SANTA CRUZ, Marinduque — Almost 200 indigent mostly senior citizens from Barangay Lusok, Santa Cruz availed of free medical and surgical services in a mission on Monday initiated by the office of Vice Governor Romulo Bacorro Jr.
Bacorro said, they have been doing the medical mission for almost 26 years.
“We are happy to help people out especially in today’s tough times brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank all the groups and individuals behind this project that shares their limited resources, and I hope that we are able to help more people especially those who belong to the poverty line,” the vice governor pointed out.
Minerva Salvacion, 60, said this is her second time to take part in the medical and surgical mission and shared her experience during the checkup.
“Pangalawang taon ko na po na nagpupunta rito sa medical mission. Ngayon po, na-check na ang high blood preassure ko at saka pinatingnan ko rin po ang likod ko, sa spinal area. Bilang pasyente, napakalaking bagay po nito sa amin dahil hindi naman po kami madalas nakakapag pa-check up sa mga pribadong ospital. Dito po, binigyan pa kami ng gamot (This is my second year in going to this medical mission. This time, I was checked as having high blood pressure and also consulted my back in the spinal area. As a patient, this is a big thing for us because we do not always go for check-up in private hospitals. Here, we were even given medicines),” Salvacion said on the day of the medical and surgical mission held at Lusok Covered Court.
Meanwhile, Emma Buena, member of Lusok Sanggunian expressed her gratitude to the team of Vice Governor Bacorro during her welcome remarks in behalf of Punong Barangay Andres Pantoja.
“Your generous contribution of time and energy to this medical mission has been an incredible gift to our people. Your generosity extends not only through your acts of giving but also through the lives that you help transform through this mission,” Buena said referring to Dr. Bacorro. — Marinduquenews.com
