DENR Marinduque initiates Nipa tree planting

BOAC, Marinduque — The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO)-Marinduque conducted a Nipa Planting Activity in line with the celebration of World Oceans Day (WOD) and Coral Triangle Day (CT Day) Thursday, June 9.

The celebration of WOD and CT Day is done every 8th and 9th of June annually focusing on ocean conservation and protection of coastal and marine resources.

This year, the WOD implements the theme “Revitalization: Collective Action for the Oceans” while the CT Day’s theme is “Sustaining the Coral Triangle Ecosystem through Blue Economy”.

As per PENRO-Marinduque, one hundred fifty (150) seedlings of Nipa (Nypa fruticans) were planted in the National Greening Program (NGP) area of Laon, Mogpog.

Participants from Philippine National Police (PNP), Marinduque State College (MSC) and Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Laon graced the activity. —
