A new TRAFFIC study reveals a flourishing trade in reptiles on Facebook in the Philippines with rapidly growing membership in groups offering everything from Critically Endangered crocodiles to rare tortoises. In just three months, researchers recorded 2,245 unique live reptile advertisements representing 115 taxa and a minimum of 5,082 individual animals posted in 90 Facebook groups. Aside from focusing on prominent tourist destinations, the Department of Tourism (DOT) on Tuesday pushed for personalized “Bring Home a Friend” program per province. In a statement, DOT Secretary Wanda Teo urged locals in every region to take part in the initiative and endorse what is unique in their respective provinces to attract foreign friends to the Philippines. From the rustic feel of one’s ancestral house down to the heirloom recipe of their grandparents, Teo said Filipinos should put forward the staples one looks forward to when going home to…

It saddened me watching the episode of State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the infamous broadcast journalist Jessica Soho entitled Matumal na Turismo, Problema sa Marinduque. Kayo po Gov. Carmencita Reyes ang tinaguriang nanay ng lalawigan ng Marinduque and I think it’s uncalled for in saying “the people cannot afford the airfare”, it sounds like, na walang kakayahan ang iyong mga residente.
