DICT activates 41 free public Wi-Fi sites in Marinduque

BOAC, Marinduque — Marinduque residents now have greater access to digital connectivity as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) successfully activated 41 free public Wi-Fi sites across the province. This initiative, under the Universal Internet Subscription for Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (UISGIDA) project of the Free Wi-Fi for All Program, marks a significant step in bridging the digital divide in the heart of the Philippines.

The newly installed free Wi-Fi sites include key government institutions such as the Marinduque Provincial Hospital, Sta. Cruz District Hospital, Torrijos Municipal Hospital, Boac and Sta. Cruz Rural Health Units and the Tumagabok, Hinadharan, Botilao, Pakaskasan and Maniwaya Barangay Hall. In addition, all six municipal halls in the province now offer free public internet access, ensuring better connectivity for local government offices and their constituents.

Public schools in Marinduque also greatly benefit from this project. Among the educational institutions with free Wi-Fi access are Canat, Duyay, Maybo, Tambunan, and Tugos in Boac. Schools in other towns also received connectivity, including Buenavista National High School-Tungib-Lipata Annex and Tungib Elementary School.

Gaspar, Tabionan, and Tapuyan National High Schools in Gasan are also beneficiaries of the program, along with Argao National High School. Several elementary schools in Mogpog, including Bocboc, Malayak, and Puting Buhangin, have also received free Wi-Fi access.

In Sta. Cruz, the program has benefited Alobo, Kilo-kilo, Kasily, Maniwaya, Mongpong, Polo, Tagum, and Tambangan National High Schools. Meanwhile, in Torrijos, Dampulan, Makawayan, Nangka, and Talawan Elementary Schools, along with a primary school in Sinambahan, are now connected to free Wi-Fi.

This development ensures that more communities can stay connected, access vital information, and benefit from digital inclusion. Whether for education, healthcare, or communication, the project empowers residents and enhances opportunities for all.

The activation of these Wi-Fi sites underscores DICT’s commitment to improving the lives of Filipinos by ensuring equitable access to online resources and digital opportunities. By providing internet connectivity to every citizen, regardless of location, DICT continues to drive the Philippines towards a more inclusive and connected future. — Marinduquenews.com
