DSWD conducts house-to-house monitoring for child beneficiaries in Torrijos

TORRIJOS, Marinduque — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) conducted a house-to-house visit and monitoring of five selected child beneficiaries under the Nutrition Case Management: Agapay 2.0 initiative of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) on February 26-27, in Torrijos, Marinduque.

The initiative aimed to assess the nutritional progress of the beneficiaries and provide direct intervention to families facing challenges in ensuring proper nutrition for their children. Parents and guardians received counseling on proper nutrition and feeding practices, along with guidance on overcoming barriers that could hinder their children’s nutritional development.

Leading the activity was DSWD SFP Head and Nutritionist-Dietitian Jane Christine G. Palmares, accompanied by Nutritionist-Dietitian, Hannah Grace E. Opis. The team worked in close coordination with key local officials, including Mary Anne M. Larracas, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer; Rosalyn M. Jasmin, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer; Gilyn D. Uy, SFP Coordinator; Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS); and Barangay Poblacion Kagawad, Serjohn P. Rocha.

Nutrition Case Management: Agapay 2.0, or the Alliance on Good Nutrition and Protective Actions for Young Children, is designed to enhance understanding of the fundamental, intermediate, and root causes of undernutrition. The program also explores the impact of poverty and other socio-economic factors on affected families, ensuring a holistic approach to tackling malnutrition.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to address malnutrition challenges in the region. Torrijos, Marinduque has been identified as an area with one of the lowest percentages of rehabilitated undernourished children in the country, making targeted interventions like Agapay 2.0 crucial in improving child nutrition outcomes.

The DSWD remains committed to ensuring that children receive the necessary nutritional support for healthy growth and development. Through continued monitoring and engagement with local communities, the department aims to uplift the well-being of vulnerable children and foster sustainable solutions to malnutrition in the country. — Marinduquenews.com
