MOGPOG, Marinduque — The completion of the P21-million Sumangga to Mangyan Mababad Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) is set to enhance agricultural connectivity and economic activity in the municipality of Mogpog, Marinduque.
The newly constructed road links Barangay Sumangga to Barangay Mangyan Mababad, replacing dense forest trails with a fully concreted route. This development promises smoother travel for residents, drivers, and travelers, significantly improving access to neighboring barangays and markets.
A transformative project by the Department of Public Works and Highways Marinduque District Engineering Office (DPWH MarDEO), the FMR features a 1,000-linear-meter stretch of portland cement concrete pavement (PCCP) with a width of 5 meters and thickness of 0.20 meters. It includes gravel shoulders, a 211-meter lined canal for drainage, 331 cubic meters of stone masonry for catch basins and slope protection, two single-barrel box culverts, and 72 linear meters of reinforced concrete pipes.
Funded by the Department of Agriculture (DA) under its 2023 budget, the project, completed on March 29, 2024, enables large vehicles to transport agricultural goods efficiently. This improved infrastructure not only reduces travel time but also cuts costs for farmers, increasing their profitability and fostering growth in the local economy.
“The completion of this farm-to-market road is a game-changer for our agricultural community,” a local farmer shared. “It allows us to bring our produce to markets faster and in better condition, ensuring fairer prices and less spoilage.”
The Sumangga to Mangyan Mababad FMR highlights the commitment of the DPWH and DA to rural development, addressing the needs of communities reliant on agriculture for their livelihoods. It is expected to serve as a catalyst for broader socio-economic progress in the region. — Marinduquenews.com
