TORRIJOS, Marinduque — Outgoing congressman and gubernatorial candidate Lord Allan Jay Velasco is calling for a manual recount of votes in Marinduque following his narrow loss in the 2025 midterm elections.
Velasco, who lost by a slim margin of 389 votes, filed an election protest before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, May 23 through his legal counsel, Atty. Rowell Ilagan. The protest challenges the results in 189 precincts across the province, which Velasco’s camp believes could significantly alter the final outcome.
“The governor won the race with a 389-vote margin. And based on our study, there are 10,175 unaccounted votes,” Ilagan said during a media briefing. “These votes can definitely affect the results of the elections and show how our voters were disenfranchised.”
