130+ Marinduqueños get free CPR and basic life support training

GASAN, Marinduque – More than 130 Marinduque residents, including local fishermen, 4Ps beneficiaries, and farm school students, get free skills training in basic life support, hands-only CPR, and first aid training.

Fifteen cardiologist and internist volunteer doctors from The Medical City Cardiovascular Institute and Department of Internal Medicine trained our kababayans for free in three separate locations: Luxor Resort and Restaurant, Pangi Covered Court, and AGREA Farm Estate.

There is a lack of health care manpower in the rural areas. Health care providers and health educators are concentrated in urban areas, like Metro Manila.

In a Facebook post, the volunteer group stated, “We strongly encourage our community residents to become trained in CPR and First Aid in the event of an incident or situation at home, work, or play that may help save a life. Learn CPR because CPR saves lives.”

The doctor volunteers also trained more than 50 local fishermen and 4Ps beneficiaries at the Pangi Covered Court, in Gasan Municipality. AGREA Farm School students, farmers, and personnel were also trained during this initiative.

“Now that I am trained with CPR, I feel confident that somehow I know what to do when accidents occur. I feel empowered because, for me, this is a new life skill that I can really make use of when the time comes,” said Mary Claire Limpiada of the AGREA Team.

Hands-Only CPR is cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) without mouth-to-mouth breaths. It is recommended for use by people who see a teen or adult suddenly collapse in an out-of-hospital setting such as at home, at work, or in a park. – This story was first published on Agrea.com
