APO, PENRO, SK join hands for the environment

BOAC, Marinduque – Alpha Phi Omega, a scouting based international service oriented fraternity and sorority joins the Marinduque Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO) in celebrating the month of June 2020 as the Philippine Environment Month, with the theme, “Protect Nature, Sustain our Future: #WeHealNature4OurFuture”.

The theme for this year’s celebration is taken from the global theme of World Environment Day, “Time for Nature”. In the Philippines, to complement the celebration of World Environment Day, the month of June every year is also declared the Philippine Environment Month, by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1988.

As a hard woody grass that continuously grows at a rapid rate, bamboo is a popular wood-substitute globally, as it is a sustainable and sturdy material. Currently, the Philippines is the sixth top exporter of the crop.

On an interview, PENR Officer Diaz said that there are nearly 60 species of bamboo in the country alone, and they are often utilized in industry for handicrafts, furniture construction, and engineered (or modified) bamboo. She then thanked the Alpha Phi Omega members who initiated the planting also the Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Tabi in Boac for participating in the said momentous event.

APO believes that it is there duty as fully participating citizen to move and get involved in the protection of the environment. They said that it is part of their four folds program of service guided by their three cardinal principles of leadership, friendship and service. Marinduquenews.com
