SANTA CRUZ, Marinduque — Vice Governor Romulo Bacorro, Jr. spearheaded a medical mission in Barangay Maniwaya, Santa Cruz on Monday, May 22 where over a hundred residents benefited from it.
Bacorro said that the medical mission was conducted to check the general well-being of the indigent residents in the community that needs medical attentions.
The medical mission provided consultations and minor operations prioritizing the most vulnerable sectors, such as the senior citizens, people with disabilities (PWD), free circumcision for children, and cautery. Aside from health services, the mission likewise gave away medicines for common ailments, canes, umbrellas, reading glasses and nebulizers.
The Maniwaya mission, Bacorro said, is part of his advocacy as a physician and public servant to further strengthen the delivery of health services in the province and realize universal healthcare for all Marinduquenos.
The medical missions initiated by the Office of the Vice Governor in every parts of Marinduque seeks to address barriers in health governance, health human resources, regulations, service delivery, and health information that would prevent Marinduquenos from accessing care.
“In a province where the gap between the rich and the poor remains wide, healthcare must be our great equalizer. Its universal fulfillment will deepen our democracy and is a step towards eradicating inequality,” Bacorro said.
He further stressed that even he and his team will cross rivers and seas just to all citizens in need of medical services he will surely do it specially in this trying time of COVID-19 pandemic.
The mission was supported by Marinduque 1st District Board Members John R. Pelaez and Gilbert L. Daquioag with the help of Dr. Kathleen Bacorro and the Maniwaya Barangay Council headed by Punong Barangay John Ryan P. Retardo. — Marinduquenews.com
