DOH rehabilitates 90 more drug surrenderees in Mimaropa

The Department of Health (DOH) – MIMAROPA (Oriental/Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) today announced the completion of drug rehabilitation program for 90 drug surrenderees under the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation, Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Program conducted in the province of Occidental Mindoro.

Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo stated that the Holistic Rehabilitation Approach was used for the rehabilitation program of drug surrenderers using non-traditional but globally tested, research and evidence-based interventions which also includes provision of family planning services for surrenderees and their family.

“This is also one way to address unmet needs of non-facility-based households in rehabilitation centers by providing them access to family planning and reproductive health methods,” he added.

Under the DOH-MIMAROPA Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation, Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Program, the surrenderees will be provided the appropriate services, trainings, herbal and natural remedies, and other resources to help them in their transition from a culture of illegal drug dependence to a lifestyle of freedom and productivity.

There were 46 individuals from the municipality of Magsaysay and 44 from the municipality of Rizal who completed the rehab program. All of the participants underwent a series of health assessments and consultations using modalities such as electric acupuncture, hypotential therapy and disease prevention analyzer.

According to Janairo, herbal and natural remedies were provided to all the participants these were Epsom Salt, Activated Charcoal, Vitamin B3 – Niacin (no flush), Andrographis Paniculata, Vitamin C, Alkaline Supplement, Malunggay Supplement, Turmeric Supplement and Rice Coffee with Turmeric Powder to keep their body fit and also for detoxification.

Live Blood Analysis (LBA), was used to observe and view the blood of participants in real time, a process which can reveal when an individual is critical for immediate detoxification by detecting the electrical frequency in the blood cells.

Music therapy was also introduced to participants exposing them to various sounds that are designed to remove stress and relax their minds.

The DOH-MIMAROPA Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation, Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Program was implemented in partnership with AHON (Association of Health Oriented Neighbors) together with the Philippine Center for Population Development (PCPD) with the supervision of NDP nurses and RHMPP midwives with the assistance of the municipal police officers of Magsaysay and Rizal in Occidental Mindoro.

“We would like to empower these drug surrenderees and bring them back to the mainstream of society living healthy, productive and fulfilling lives and exercising the right to regulate their own fertility through legally and acceptable means of family planning services that are readily available to them,” Janairo concluded.
