More than 3,000 SHS students in Mimaropa took DOST scholarship examination

TAGUIG CITY, Manila – A total of 3,174 aspiring science and technology scholars took the 2020 Undergraduate Scholarship examination of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Sunday, October 20.

These are grade 12 students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strands and in Non-STEM strands who belong to the top 5 percent of their graduating class.

“We are happy that this year’s number of examinees has exceeded the 2,058 mark of last year’s number, an up by 54 percent,” announced Bobby Matira, the Regional Scholarship Technical Coordinator.

The venue of the recently concluded examination were the following testing centers: [Palawan] Western Philippines University-Puerto Princesa Campus, Brooke’s Point Convention Center, Coron School of Fisheries, and Central Taytay National School; [Marinduque] Saint Mary’s College of Marinduque and Landy National High School; [Romblon] Odiongan National High School and Magdiwang National High School; [Oriental Mindoro] Oriental Mindoro National High School and Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology – Bongabong Campus; and, [Occidental Mindoro] San Jose National High School, Occidental Mindoro Natioanl High School, and Stella Maris School.

Matira said that those who will pass the qualifying examination will receive financial assistance of P40,000 per academic year to cover tuition and other school fees, living allowance of P7,000 per month, book allowance of P10,000 per academic year, transportation allowance for those who will be studying outside their home province (1 economy-class roundtrip per academic year), premium group health and accident insurance and graduation clothing allowance. – Marinduquenews.com
