‘Clash of Clans’ in Marinduque this local election 2019

BOAC, Marinduque – The time has come again when our public servants needs to file their certificate of candidacy for 2019 Midterm Elections. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) sets the filing period from October 11-17, 2018.

With the given date, new faces and incumbents are making the much-anticipated election interesting especially in the province of Marinduque. It was indeed a ‘battle of families’ in key positions in our heart-shaped island province. First, Gov. Carmencita Reyes is eyeing the House seat against the incumbent Lone District Representative Lord Allan Jay Velasco. Throughout the political career, the former lawmaker and incumbent Gov. Carmencita Reyes, never lost any election. It can be noted that the 2016-2019 term of Rep. Velasco is his 3rd and last term but since his 2nd term wasn’t fully consummated due to the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) ruling unseating Former Rep. Regina “Gina” Reyes, he was allowed (again) to run.

Next stop, the gubernatorial race between retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco and Dr. Ma. Violeta Reyes. Meanwhile, the one-time allied is now gunning for vice governor seat. It’s a battle between Gov. Reyes grandson, Edmundo Vega and Vice Governor Romulo Bacorro, Jr. Finally, the mayoralty race in the province capital, the municipality of Boac. Mayor Roberto Madla is already on his 3rd and last term. Several candidates aims to replace him including, again the grandson of Nanay Carmencita, Lorenzo Ramon Vega, and former Mayor Pedrito Nepomuceno among others.

In addition to the list, Torrijos Mayor Lorna Velasco is seeking for re-election and at the same time her daughter, MATA Partylist Rep. Trisha Nicole Velasco-Catera.

Without a doubt, it is indeed a ‘Clash of Clans’ in the upcoming 2019 Local Elections. But then again, It is still in the hands of the voters who they think deserves to be in the position that will truly help the province attain progress.  Ronel Francis Lintot, Marinduquenews.com
