COA applauds Marinduque for innovation, accounting and PWD practices

QUEZON CITY, Philippines – The Commission on Audit (COA) looked favorably upon the provincial government of Marinduque for several accomplishments in disability affairs, social welfare programs and financial housekeeping.

According to the 2018 annual audit report, Marinduque was recognized as one of the local government units most accommodating to persons with disability (PWD).

“Hence, on its 1st Regional Search for Persons with Disability Friendly Local Government Unit in MIMAROPA, the Province of Marinduque was bestowed with the award having implemented the mandated programs and services for persons with disabilities in the Province,” the report stated.

The support for PWDs is mandated under Republic Act No. 7277 or the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, as well as supplementary laws including R.A. No 10070, Executive Order Nos. 33 and 709.

Department of Social Welfare and Development also commended the provincial government for being the “Most Innovative Province” under its Leadership for Convergence Program II.

“(The award was given) to acknowledge the effort of the provincial officials in the implementation of programs and projects towards uplifting the well-being of poor but deserving families in the Province,” COA said.

Lastly, state auditors praised the provincial government’s “efficient financial housekeeping” which reportedly yielded an additional P88.17 million for various infrastructure projects including the repair of provincial roads and bridges.

In addition, the state auditing agency noted that Marinduque was also able to submit balances and financial statements required by law.
