BOAC, Marinduque – May 25, 2019, marks a historic event for The Street Classroom, a volunteer organization in the island province of Marinduque, with the primary goal of providing indigenous, localized, and fun-filled learning activities to street children, school children, out-of-school children, out-of-school youth, out-of-school adults, drop-outs, and children who are unable to attend regular classes due to physical, economic, and geographical limitations.
The Street Classroom breaks the ground on its 1st Outreach Activity at Sitio Ubog-Ubog, Barangay Nangka 2, Mogpog, Marinduque in collaboration with Food Not Bombs-Marinduque supported by Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Mandin Marinduque Alumni Association No. 118, The Boac Hotel, Philippine National Bank (PNB) Savings Bank (Boac), Mind Gym, Travel Philippines BBP 81, Dreamcather’s Therapy Center, and Balar Lifestyle District.
On an interview with Kyle David Atienza, founder of The Street Classroom, he reiterated that, “The humble beginning of The Street Classroom is just a mere idea when I was unemployed, it came from a simple Facebook post and it gathers support from kind and committed Marindukanons.”
“More than 4,000 out-of-schools in the whole island province may just be a small number to some but it’s enough to be alarmed, and to create action. We don’t want kids to only focus academically, but socially, physically, mentally, and environmentally smart, as well”, Atienza added.
Seventy children beneficiaries maybe just a partial step and it manifest the beginning of the realization towards the goal of The Street Classroom to motivate and encourage beneficiaries to attend and participate in formal education inside classrooms to further develop their love of country, duties of citizenship, moral character, personal discipline, and scientific, technological, and vocational efficiency. –Marinduquenews.com
