DOH delivers total care for MAP patients in Mimaropa

Department of Health (DOH) – MIMAROPA (Oriental/Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo announced that all indigent and poor patients under the Medical Assistance Program (MAP) of the region will be given total care package during the recently concluded “First Regional Medical Assistance Program Workshop” attended by various directors of provincial hospitals, municipal health officers, representatives of legislators and social workers of MIMAROPA held in Baguio City on June 21-23, 2017.

“All beneficiaries of MAP will be provided full treatment package, meaning they will not only be assisted during the process but they will also be monitored and complemented even after their treatment to ensure their recovery,” Janairo stated.

“Let us not be contented by just helping our patients, we should also establish an appropriate aftercare program to monitor indigent out-patients to find out what happened to them after they have been discharged from the health facility,” he emphasized.

“Our responsibility as health workers doesn’t end after we have given the patient the assistance needed, we have also a responsibility to provide patient education on treatment options and help coordinate services needed after their discharge from the health facility.” Janairo encouraged.

Under the MAP, duly certified indigents and poor patents seeking medical assistance and inpatient services in authorized government health facilities shall be entitled to medical services including, drugs, medicines and other services prescribed by the attending physician of the government facility. “In case of non-availability of drugs and medicines, tests and other procedures, the concerned health facility may refer the needed services to a private health facility provided it is accredited by the DOH. Outside services will be charged against the DOH hospital,” Janairo clarified.
