Marinduque State College Main Campus dominated the 27th Philippine Statistics Quiz (Provincial Championships) held on October 23, securing both the champion and first runner-up titles.
Emerging as the champion is Clyde Drexler Lanot, a first-year BS Mechanical Engineering student, who accumulated a remarkable 16 points throughout the competition.
Not far behind, Van Jefferson Malacas, a BS Civil Engineering student, achieved the distinction of being the first runner-up, amassing a total of 15 points.
Both of these talented students received guidance from their coaches: Engr. Aubrey Lanot and Engr. Don Mark Dela Cruz, both esteemed members of the faculty of the MSC College of Engineering.
In addition to these achievements, Cedric Villaruel also triumphed as the 2nd runner-up in the competition. He represented MSC—Torrijos Campus as a BS Agriculture student and was coached by Mr. Eulogio Medina represented by Campus Director Mr. Harvey Dulay.
Furthermore, the Provincial Champion and the First Runner-Up will represent Marinduque in the forthcoming 27th PSQ Regional Championship, scheduled for November 10, 2023, in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
This opportunity came as a result of their exceptional performance, having achieved a cumulative score of at least 15 points across all three rounds, in compliance with the Regional Championship’s mechanics.
In addition to the students and coaching staff, the event was graced by Ms. Gemma N. Opis, the Chief Statistical Specialist (CSS) of PSA-Marinduque, and Hon. Alejnic Andrew M. Solomon, Member of the Sangguniang Bayan of the Municipality of Boac, who shared their messages at the outset. Representing Marinduque State College, Asso. Prof. Marvin Plata, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, was also in attendance, providing oversight for the entire event.
The 27th Philippines Statistics Quiz was organized by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Marinduque Provincial Statistical Office of Marinduque (PSO) as part of the 34th National Statistics Month. The competition saw participation from students from Santa Cruz Institute (SCI) Inc., MSC-Main Campus, MSC-Torrijos Campus, and MSC-Gasan Campus.
