BOAC, Marinduque – The Boac North District bagged five major awards in the recently concluded Seminar-Workshop and Contests on Photography and Oil Pastel Color Painting for two days, October 27-28 at the Casa Real, Boac. In the Oil Pastel Painting Elementary Category, the district won all three major awards: third prize – Adrian O. Orilla, 2nd prize – Almira M. Hidalgo and first prize – Eivan Josh Semilla with 81.67% rating. In Photography contest, same school also got the 2nd prize for Samantha Azia D. Gutierrez and first prize for Shane Theriz M. Fandialan. Evangeline Saez, the school’s coach was so elated having been given these awards.
Other winners in Oil Pastel Painting Contest for Secondary Level were: 3rd Prize – Maradel Maac from Educational Systems and Technological Institute (ESTI), 2nd Placer – Timothy Andrei M. Milambiling and First Prize with 92% rating went to Joseph David Maderazo, both from Marinduque National High School.
For Photography Contest, Elementary Category: 3rd Prize – Jhenine Lure S. Mantaringg of St. Mary’s College of Marinduque. For Secondary Level: Third prize was given to Juhaira M. Guido of Ilaya National High School; 2nd Place – Kyla L. Carig of St. Mary’s College of Marinduque and First Prize – Liann Gabrielle Fernando with 92.33 % of Marinduque State College.
The Municipality of Boac and the Municipal Council for Local History Culture and the Arts enjoined Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools students in this event supported by their coaches. Jing-jing Loto was the over-all coordinator for this very informative and productive project thru the support of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Education, headed by SB Luisito M. Majaba. The judges were Joven M. Lilles from the Provincial Tourism Office, Nelson Nace – Operations Manager of Dream Favor Travel and Tours and Jojo Lleva from the Municipality of Boac.
This project that aims to develop the artistic capabilities of the students and enhance social awareness on how they can help for the progress of the municipality through the different forms of arts was graced on behalf of Mayor Roberto Madla by Vice Mayor Robert E. Opis and SB Bernadine Opis Mercado. Three representatives from each level were required per school all in the municipality of Boac to be mentored by Darwin G. Garnal, illustrator, photographer and creative director at the Central Office of the Philippine Information Agency, Quezon City and Nilo M. Miciano, artist, interior designer and landscaper. Participating schools were – Boac North District, South District, Ilaya National High School, St. Mary’s College of Marinduque, Marinduque State College, Educational System and Technological Institute.
This event is part of the celebration of the 394th Founding Anniversary of Boac from December 1-8 highlighting the feast of its patron saint, the Immaculate Conception on the 8th of December. Awarding of the Cash Prizes to the winners will be on December 1, 9:00 am at the Boac Covered Court.
Most of the participants were thankful that they have learned so many important tips in creating good photos and paintings. They were able to learn different techniques and vital tips in taking pictures with different subjects and approaches. The difference between painting and poster making was emphasized and the different kinds of paintings that each must be given separate learning time. Most importantly, they were able to enjoy doing arts while learning and making use of their time productively.
