BOAC, Marinduque — In a bid to bring cutting-edge technology to local communities, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Mimaropa through its Provincial Science and Technology Office in Marinduque, hosted a Forum on Virtual Reality (VR) at Marinduque State University (MarSU) on June 27.
The event, organized in partnership with Red Root Artists Cooperative—a DOST-SETUP-assisted creative enterprise specializing in exhibit curation, audiovisual production, 3D modeling, and immersive technologies—introduced participants to the practical applications of VR and Augmented Reality (AR).
Red Root shared how DOST’s support enabled them to acquire advanced fabrication tools such as 3D printers, laser engravers, and projection systems, boosting their capacity to deliver integrated VR and AR solutions. They showcased applications including holograms, projection mapping, tracking, game development, and other new media technologies.
Participants had the opportunity to experience immersive VR simulations firsthand, including those used in medical training, to demonstrate the technology’s potential in education, creative design, workforce development, and public service.
The forum brought together a diverse audience from various sectors, including representatives from the Provincial Government of Marinduque – Tourism Office, LGU-Boac, TESDA-Marinduque, DepEd-Marinduque, and several academic institutions such as Landy National High School, Santa Cruz Institute, Educational Systems Technological Institute, Marinduque Midwest College, and the host MarSU. Local enterprises like Herbagen General Merchandise and Uncle Roy Processed Food Manufacturing also participated.
An open forum allowed attendees to discuss the opportunities and challenges of VR integration in classrooms, training programs, and enterprise operations. Many expressed interest in exploring its use to improve engagement, efficiency, and innovation in their respective fields.
Virtual Reality is a computer-generated simulation that immerses users in an interactive digital environment, allowing them to explore and interact within constructed spaces. By introducing this technology, DOST-Mimaropa aims to promote innovation and digital readiness in Marinduque.
This initiative is part of DOST-Mimaropa’s continuing efforts to strengthen the province’s innovation landscape by promoting emerging technologies as tools for education, creativity, and enterprise—paving the way for inclusive and digitally driven local development. — Marinduquenews.com
