National Museum in Marinduque marks 30 years of cultural preservation and heritage promotion

BOAC, Marinduque — The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) in Marinduque is set to mark its 30th anniversary on February 22, celebrating three decades of cultural preservation and heritage promotion in the province. Since its establishment in 1995 and subsequent reopening in 2019, NMP-Marinduque has played a crucial role in safeguarding the region’s rich history and traditions.

The milestone coincides with a major accessibility initiative by the NMP, which, as of January 2025, has extended the operating days of all national museums across the Philippines, including NMP-Marinduque. The museum now welcomes visitors seven days a week from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m, ensuring greater public access to its collections and programs.

To commemorate its pearl anniversary, NMP-Marinduque has curated a special week-long celebration featuring engaging cultural activities:

  • February 17 – HULMA: Demonstration/Workshop on Pottery Making
    • Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the province’s unique musical heritage through an interactive demonstration of Kalutang, a traditional wooden percussion instrument indigenous to Marinduque.
  • February 19 – The Kalutang Experience
    • As the highlight of the celebration, a mural collaboration will be unveiled, symbolizing NMP-Marinduque’s dedication to fostering art, history, and cultural identity within the community.
  • February 22 – 30th Anniversary Mural Collaboration
