BOAC, Marinduque – A sea turtle was found along the shoreline in Barangay Laylay, Boac, Marinduque.
According to the Facebook report of Dr. Josue Victoria, Head of Marinduque Provincial Veterinary Office, said sea creature was spotted by a fisherman, Ariel Moredo, Sr., 59 years old on Saturday, June 9. Moredo informed the former president of Kabalikat-Marinduque, Gerry Menorca about the incident.
The Marinduque Animal and Wildlife Rescue Emergency Response Team (MAWRERT) immediately proceeded to the area and found an adult female green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) measuring about 3 feet (length) by 2 feet (width) with an approximate weight between 65 to 75 kilograms.
Health assessment and gathering of vital information was conducted. The sea creature was tagged and immediately released back to the sea.
“DENR is the agency in-charge in tagging of wildlife species and there are specific guidelines in tagging of such. An Executive Order was issued by the Governor institutionalizing the Marinduque Animal and Wildlife Rescue Emergency Response Team under the Provincial Veterinary Office which was tasked to compliment the activities of DENR regarding rescues and protection of wildlife species in the island since DENR doesn’t have their own veterinarian to look after the animals in need.” – as explained by Dr. Victoria in his Facebook post.
The rescue operation were participated by Dr. Josue Victoria (mawrert/KB475 60), Allien Paguio (mawrert/KB475 79), Menchie Radovan (DENR), JO3 Jose Odysseus G. Rodas, SJO1 Alexander O. Cruzado, JO1 Arnaldo F. Rollo Jr., JO1 Jillyn P. Mapacpac and PSI Venice Rodas along with BJMP personnel who are conducting coastal clean-up when the incident happened. – Marinduquenews.com
