BOAC, Marinduque — Residents along the riverside of Boac, Marinduque are now protected from flood-related hazards following the completion of a flood control structure.
In a report of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional director Gerald A. Pacanan to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the project is composed of a 150-linear meter flood control structure with steel sheet piles aimed at fortifying the riverbank against landslides and soil erosion caused by heavy flooding.
It is designed to regulate the water flow, particularly during strong typhoons, as residents have been experiencing life-threatening conditions due to the adverse impact of landslides, solid erosion, and water contamination.
“The flood control structure in Barangay Maligaya provides a sense of relief and security for the residents, protecting them from the threat of waterborne diseases, one of the lingering problems in the riverside communities in the municipality of Boac,” Pacanan added.
By building this structure, public and private properties as well as essential infrastructure in the area, will also be protected from possible damage.
The DPWH-Marinduque District Engineering Office oversaw the construction of this project, with a total cost of P16.86 million funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2023. — Marinduquenews.com
