BOAC, Marinduque – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) headed by Imee M. Diaz celebrates the 2019 Month of the Ocean (MOO) through a simultaneous coastal clean-up along 83 coastal barangays.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the MOO celebration with the theme “Free the Seas from Marine Debris.”
The momentous event was participated by a total of 3,635 from local government units, communities and other national government agencies like Philippine National Police and Department of Social Welfare and Development to name a few.
Coinciding the event was the Search for Best Barangay in terms of its compliance to Solid Waste Management and active participation in the month of the ocean. The group collected a total of 3,082.8 kilograms of trash along the shorelines.
The awarding of the said search will be on June 4, 2019 which will include lectures on Clean Water Act, Water Code of the Philippines, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change Adaptation, and Mitigation to be participated by barangay captains of the 83 participating communities. Also it will be the kick-off of the environment month.
“It is high time for all of us not just the government agencies but in our own self to move and respond to the alarming state and critical situation of our environment especially our marine resources”, Diaz concluded. –Marinduquenews.com
