Marinduque corn farmers graduate from DA’s program

MOGPOG, Marinduque — The Marinduque Provincial Agriculture Office, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA) in Mimaropa, successfully conducted a graduation ceremony for corn farmers under the Farmers Field School (FFS): Eskwelahang Walang Dingding Program.

A total of 75 corn farmers from the towns of Mogpog, Gasan, and Buenavista celebrated their completion of the 18 weeks of agricultural learning. The Farmers Field School: Eskwelahang Walang Dingding is an initiative of the provincial government to educate the corn farmers on the strategies and effective ways of planting. This action is also part of Angat Saka program which aims to increase the production of corn and achieve food security and sufficiency in Marinduque.

In her message, assistant provincial agriculturist Susana Uy, reported on the event that there are already more than 100 tons of yellow corn delivered to Lucena City, Quezon while also emphasizing that the government has continued to implement the FFS program.

“Ngayong araw na ito, kayo po ang patunay na talagang hindi tumitigil ang Department of Agriculture sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa pamahalaang panlalawigan upang patuloy na palakasin ang corn farming sa ating probinsya. Ang araw po na ito ay isang patunay na may suporta tayo… na may ginagawa po tayo. Hindi po tayo titigil sa pagsasagawa ng programang ito,” said Uy.

[Today, you are a living proof that the Department of Agriculture doesn’t stop from coordinating with the provincial government to further develop the corn farming in the province. This graduation ceremony of corn farmers proves that we are offering support…that we are making an action. We will not end here and will continue to do this kind of program.]

The said program has been a great help among the corn farmers in Marinduque.

[It is beneficial to us because we’ve been taught proper planting and the use of fertilizer. The government also provided us a loan, which we are paying through yellow corn.]

Magparangalan also expressed her profound gratitude to the provincial government and Gasan local government unit (LGU) for the implementation of the said program.

Meanwhile, Governor Presbitero Velasco, Jr. congratulates the newly graduated corn farmers and encourages them to further expand the corn production in the province. He also extends his appreciation to the Department of Agriculture, and the support of Marinduque provincial government and LGU’s. — Marinduquenews.com
