BOAC, Marinduque — The Ogbac Flood Control Project, located in Barangay Ogbac, Boac, Marinduque, reached its completion on November 23, 2024, bringing long-awaited relief to the community.
Spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways Marinduque District Engineering Office (DPWH MarDEO), this initiative aims to address the persistent flooding issues in the area, especially during heavy rains when the Boac River frequently overflows, endangering lives and property.
For years, the residents of Barangay Ogbac faced devastating floods that displaced families, damaged homes, and disrupted livelihoods. Overflowing riverbanks during downpours forced many to evacuate, leaving behind their belongings and enduring significant hardship.
The project, titled Construction and Maintenance of Flood Control (FC) Mitigation Structures and Drainage Systems-Construction of Ogbac Flood Control, was financed through the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA), with a budget of P91.846 million. The construction involved building a 538-linear-meter flood control structure reinforced with 9-meter steel sheet piles, effectively fortifying the riverbanks and providing robust protection for the community.
With the project’s completion, the severity of flooding in the area has significantly diminished. The new infrastructure safeguards homes along the riverbank, prevents property damage, and eliminates the need for frequent evacuations. Residents now experience a renewed sense of security and stability, no longer living in constant fear of the Boac River’s destructive power.
Beyond flood protection, the Ogbac Flood Control Project has also transformed the community into a safer and more resilient area. It has bolstered the residents’ confidence in their future, as their homes and livelihoods are now shielded from the once-persistent threat of flooding.
The DPWH Marinduque District Engineering Office, through this critical project, has reinforced its commitment to building infrastructure that enhances public safety and fosters sustainable development in the province. — Marinduquenews.com
