Velasco lauds signing of barangay, SK polls postponement, Malasakit Center Act

QUEZON CITY, Metro Manila – Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco lauded the signing into law of the measures postponing the barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan elections; and the establishment of Malasakit Centers in the country.

Velasco, chairperson of the House Committee on Energy, was one of the principal authors of the postponement of the village and youth council elections. He was the co-author of the “Malasakit Center” bill in the House of Representatives.

“The law will effectively extend the terms of office of out barangay and SK officials who are at the forefront of government service. Without the extension the incumbent officials would be service for just two years,” Velasco said.

“Their term extension will allow the government to finish its programs at the grassroots level,” Velasco added.

On the “Malasakit Center,” which he co-authored, Velasco said the law would bring government service to where they are needed most – in the government hospitals nationwide.

“Our people do not have to queue for long lines and hours at the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office or at the Department of Social Welfare and Development for financial assistance. Through the Malasakit Center these government agencies will be there to assist them where their patients are,” Velasco said. Marinduquenews.com
